A foreign USB Key can be dangerous for your Company!

When we were kids, my friends and I often find money on the ground. We used to collect it. Not you? Three times out of ten! We ran then, not without joy, towards the gravers of vicinity to acquire toys, candies or bars of chocolate, as by fear keeping some coin by-towards oneself. It should be said that, morally, we were not completely free with the idea to find without seeking. Moreover, we never brought it back to the parents, due to the fear of being summoned to reassign with the ground what the sky had so liberally offered to us. At the time, one spoke neither about hyper-competition nor of cyber criminality there. As we grew, the chance became miserly. Was God angry? Mystery. In any case, time changed. We felt it. But our vigilance never decreased. Today, pens, cell phones and other USB keys are the most coveted objects by children we are not any more, but also by adults, sometimes competitive Intelligence professionals like you…?

For the first holydays’ meeting in the town of our childhood, my friends and I decided to pass on another side, on the slope of those who “lose” things with premeditation. After having pretexted a professional meeting with a friend, we were introduced at JustLearn Ltd. and there have “mislaid” our two USB keys, as by chance. 45 minutes after our departure, we returned in the company, looking blew and worried, all at the same time. Our keys had of course disappeared. No mystery. But nobody in the company had even simply seen the keys! Our friend was outraged by it, but not surprised at all. Two new keys USB Jet Flash 168 16 Go? Magic of the chance! An internet connection and two e-mails later, we almost knew everything about the legal unit of JustLearn Ltd. The idea that a USB key fallen from the sky could be introduced into a computer without another form of lawsuit had flattered more than one, offering an intelligent artery in the middle of the company to us. For sure, the parents and especially the IF direction would be right to blame those who thus fall in love with the charms of unknown keys.  Be wary of the USB keys which trail or go and come in several computers. They could be dangerous…

While my friends and I were listenening to the excuses of JustLearn Ltd. executives to whom we had just returned the legal parcel of their company by e-mail, we had fun like kids, thinking especially of these trainees, consultants and co-operators who plunder companies, political parties, associations and NGO’s…, simply by introducing friendly a vicious USB key into the right computer. A pleasure of adults… But the risk with the reverse is possible. Always protect yourself ! Even during the holidays. Guy Gweth
